Historical Society Debuts Postal Exhibits on Friday
There will be an opening reception Friday 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for members and invited guests as the Westport Historical Society celebrates Westport?s visible and influential place in U. S. Postal Service history through two new companion exhibits. One is ?U.S. Postage Stamps Designed by Westport Artists,? curated by Westport artist (and stamp designer) Leonard Everett Fisher (above) in the Betty & Ralph Sheffer Gallery. The other is ?The Road to 06880: Colonial Era to Present,? curated by Brian O?Leary, in the Mollie Donovan Gallery. The main exhibit showcases 164 stamps and the 17 prominent Westport artists who designed them. Both exhibits will run to Dec. 31. The Pony Express stamp on the poster was designed by Westport noted illustrator Harold von Schmidt. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Larry Untermeyer for WestportNow.com
