Can A California Broker Also Be A Real Estate Investor? | REALTOR ...

questions

Q: This may sound like a question with an obvious answer but, in the state of California, is it okay for a California licensed RE Broker to buy, sell, assign, invest, etc. properties in his/her own individual name? Is there anywhere I can read or reference this information? I?m not sure if this is legal/ethical. Thanks!
?Anonymous, San Diego, CA

A: Yes, it is legal. Just like you as a homeowner can sell, assign, or lease your home. The broker should disclose they are a broker and principal in the sell. Thus it is both legal and ethical.

A: If you are a CA Real Estate Broker, you are qualified to represent yourself in any real estate transaction in the state of California. You are also allowed to employ licensed CA Real Estate Salespersons to sell properties under your Broker license. Good luck!
